Claret (non vintage)

This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot was aged in older oak barrels to highlight the bright fruit. Aromas of black cherry and plum give way to subtle tannins on the finish. Serve with cheese, hors d'oeuvres, and picnic dishes. r.s.= 0.7% $9.95

Vineyard Notes
This wine was produced from grapes grown on the estate of First Colony Winery. The blend is a direct representation of the varietals grown at First Colony's vineyard site: 10% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 80% Merlot. Each grape variety was harvested separately according to their optimum levels of Brix and pH.

Cellar Notes
Each varietal was fermented in separate tanks for a length of one week. The winemaker pumped the juice slowly over to intensify the light and fruity characteristics of the wine. The varietals were then blended together and transferred to older French oak barrels for a short aging period to add a little complexity to the wine.
