Andrew Nixon
Tasting Room Manager
Andrew’s passion for wine is deep-seated in generations passed through his heritage. His Sicilian-born grandfather produced wine dating back to Prohibition in the 1920s. Andrew’s interest in the industry is a bit more recent. He grew up in Cookeville, Tennessee and was a 2010 graduate from Miami University with a BA in History and Archaeology. While attending Miami, Andrew took a Viticulture and Enology class, because of course, what college senior can turn down getting credits for drinking wine? After this class he was hooked, yet, wine was still more of a hobby than an eventual career path. After moving to Charlottesville in January of 2013, he became a Tasting Room Associate here at First Colony where he began learning the ins and outs of the wine trade. This avocation soon became his chosen career and, in the Fall of 2014 Andrew was promoted to the Tasting Room Manager. Andrew is excited to fuse his passion for great wines with his work in the tasting room to help showcase First Colony Winery.
